Snow adventure

It's winter, it's cold but it rarely snows here in Waxhaw, North Carolina so we decided to go to where it does snow...the blue ridge mountains! We took advantage of the long MLK weekend and headed up to Boone to get our fill of cold noses, snow balls and lots of hot chocolate.  We began our venture by caravaning up to the mountains with good friends, the Glawes, Picernos, and the Webers.  It was a steep and twisty ride up the mountain which proved to be a bit much after a lunch of Wendy's chicken nuggets...which would soon make a reappearance unfortunately.  We had a car sick Charlotte :(  She was a trooper though and was ready to sled once we finally made it to the sledding hill at Beech Mountain.  We met the Evan's family and the Simon family at the snow hill.  The kids had fun sledding, although my children maybe went down twice before deciding just playing in the snow was good enough for them!  So be it!  After about an hour of chilly snow fun we headed across the street for some cookies and hot chocolate and some warmth.
We then loaded back into the car and headed to the hotel in Boone.  Once we were all settled in we walked over to a steak house right next door (talk about convenience!) and enjoyed a nice meal, all 15 of us!
We woke up the next morning to a lovely view of snow falling!  It was beautiful (if you are living in New Jersey at the moment you might disagree!).  For us it was a nice sight and luckily it didn't last too long so we had clear roads to Sugar Mountain.  The plan was to go snow tubing, and while all our friends did go tubing we did not.  As with the sledding Charlotte and Nathan were happy just to play, maybe eat a little of the snow.  They were just not feeling the tubing so we just enjoyed the mountain views, played in the snow, enjoyed hot chocolate once again before heading home.  We had a great time even if we didn't snow tube and will be back next year for another snow adventure that will hopefully include tubing...it looked so fun!

Warming up by the fireplace in the hotel.

Ready to walk next door for dinner after a fun snow day!

Sugar Mountain

Worth the trip just for those mountain views

We had a fun adventure in the snow with great friends.

Until next year Sugar Mountain!
